The 11 Best Michael Jackson Solo Songs (Pre-Off The Wall):

Thriller is iconic.  Bad is iconic.  Dangerous is iconic.  Off The Wall is iconic.  Invincible is...not too bad.  Since 1979's release of Off The Wall, everything Michael Jackson has done has been woven into the fabric of our culture.  His music is a recognizable as Mickey Mouse.  How many pop singers have their own Disneyland attraction?  But what a lot of people don't know is that MJ had a career before the super stardom.  No, I'm not talking about The Jackson 5, I'm talking about MJ's lesser known 4 solo albums from the 70s.  Before he moonwalked across the stage, he was a kid figuring out his own path.  Before he asked Annie if she was okay, he was singing ballads to rats.  And before he was innovating the music video, he was singing songs about birds.  Most of these early songs are not as iconic as MJ's later material, but that doesn't mean these songs are great.  They're MJ's growing pains.  And even MJ's evolving material is stronger than many musicians' best.
Thanks to Sonny, my special guest writer, for his list!!  Trust me, this guy knows MJ.

The 11 Best Albums of 1979

I had a friend Anthony who was obsessed with Pink Floyd. One day he spent the entire afternoon a dual cassette deck trying to line up the last song on the Wall so it would transition smoothly back into the first song. He was so proud of the 3-second splice that he made a mixed tape with that intertwined between every song. As strange (and super obsessive) as this was, there were something about his actions that embodied the mojo of his actions. That seemingly meaningless minutia was of the utmost importance. Maybe that's because everyone was smoking so much pot or that after the mayhem of the 60s...it was time to chill out.

Here are the 11 Best Albums of 1979:

1. Pink Floyd - The Wall
2. Michael Jackson - Off the Wall
3. AC/DC - Highway To Hell
4. Led Zeppelin - In Through the Out Door
5. The Police - Regatta de Blanc
6. Van Halen - Van Halen 2
7. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures (Disorder)
8. The Ramones - End of the Century
9. Prince - Prince
10. Split Enz - Frenzy

The 11 Best Michael Jackson Songs

This week Roger Clemens faced off in a Congressional Oversight Hearing about steroid use in baseball. Forget about the fact that Congress shouldn't be wasting their time with baseball...but when did Congress ever do anything right? Forget about the fact that either Clemens or McNamee is lying in colossal fashion. Whoever is lying should be nominated for a freaking Oscar. What I am most blown away by is how many people are coming to Roger Clemens aid....how many people are blindly following him. Why is it when a celebrity is ever accused of anything, the fans refuse to believe that their idol could possibly do anything wrong...that their idol is somehow...not human. With the massive amount of celebrities who continue to break the law, lie, cheat and steal...how come we are still so skeptical that any of them would ever do anything wrong?

Go buy MJ's reissue of Thriller...we all know how much the album rocks...now get it with all the bonus tracks, including my favorite..."For All Time."

The 11 Best Michael Jackson Songs:

1. Beat It (Thriller)
2. Speed Demon (Bad)
3. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' (Thriller)
4. Don't Stop Til You Get Enough (Off The Wall)
5. The Way That You Love Me (The Ultimate Collection - Invincible Outtake)
6. Working Day and Night (Off The Wall)
7. Give In To Me (Dangerous)
8. D.S. (History)
9. Billie Jean (Thriller)
10. The Lost Children (Invincible)
11. I Wanna Be Where You Are (Got To Be There)

Today's list was compiled by my friend, Sonny, who might be the biggest MJ fan of all times. Thanks! (although, I will have to talk to him about not including Smooth Criminal or Thriller)
