In the long hiatus between Faith No More albums, the band members kept busy.  The busiest of them all was Mike Patton and his six octave range who released 23 albums and almost 50 guest appearances.  You couldn't stop him, you could only hope to contain him.  It was inevitable for Faith No More to get back together because Mike Patton was running out of people to play with!  One of the most successful post-FNM projects was Tomahawk, featuring Duane Denison of The Jesus Lizard, Kevin Rutmanis of the Melvins and John Stainer of Helmet.

This weekend saw one of the most horrific tragedies to ever occur during a live music event.  Over 200 people killed and over 100 more injured because of another pyrotechnic display gone awry.  There are really very little words that can describe the devastating event in any sort of light other than misery.  Apparently the incident occurred because the lead singer of the performing band lit a flare onstage. Stupid doesn't even describe it.  But calling names and pointing blame is practically useless now.  I hate when artists try to compensate for lackluster performances with elaborate stage shows.  It convinces everyone that in order to enjoy a live show...there has to be something more to it.  So every band thinks it's imperative to outdo the other.  It's not.  Live shows are about live music.  It's hard to get too deep into this subject without feeling upset for the families.  And that's all we should be concerned about.

Mike Patton was known for years for being one of the most bizarre live performers of all time.  His band Tomahawk (one of his 50 different musical projects) returns this week.

Since the break-up of Faith No More, Mike Patton has been on a recording frenzy.  Since 1997, he has recorded a total of 19 albums featured as a lead singer.  On top of that, he's been featured as a guest vocalist/musician/producer on an additional 50 albums.  A majority of the music is largely experimental with very few returns to traditional rock.  This is has caused fans to miss the good old days of Faith No More...some would even settle for a return to the days of Mr. Bungle.  But now with the Faith No More reunion in full swing, does that mean fans are going to start missing the days of Fantomas, Peeping Tom, and Tomahawk?

This week sees Patton's 20th release...and probably the most normal of anything he's done in awhile.  It's an Italian opera covers album.  Normal for Patton...out there for anyone else.
