The 11 Best Songs By The Tokyo Police Club

One of the most alarming things I read today was that Kiss is about to have their first Rolling Stone cover...ever.  Ever!  WTF Rolling Stone.  I'm not pissed that Kiss is getting a Rolling Stone cover...I'm in shock that it has taken almost 40 years for them to get one.  Justin Beiber's had THREE covers!  And he sucks.  Miley Cyrus has been on the cover of Rolling Stone.  But not Kiss.  Clay Aiken, Creed, Wilson Philips, Adam Lambert, and Snooki have been on the cover.  But not Kiss.  Charles Manson and the Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev have made the cover of Rolling Stone.  But not Kiss.  A terrorist gets priority over Gene Simmons!  Seriously?!!  At least, Charles Manson put out an album.
On a positive note, Kiss does get their cover before The Pixies, Public Enemy, My Bloody Valentine, The Smiths, The Kinks, New Order and The Velvet Underground.

Free Music Friday: Tokyo Police Club - The Polaroid Album

I know this is a few weeks old but that doesn't change how much fun the music is. As a promotion for Polaroid, Tokyo Police Club covered 10 songs from the past decade.  They covered one pivotal song from each year.  And the choices are all over the place from the alternative smash hit The Sweetness by Jimmy Eat World to the indie darling Kim & Jessie by M83 to the tween pop smash hit Party in the USA by Mylie Cyrus.  I don't know how they did  it, but they made Kelly Clarkson listenable.  There seems to be a growing trend of bands and compilations featuring nothing but covers.  And all of them have been free from the Nevermind cover album by Spin and the Is This It cover album from Stereogum.  It's times like these that I feel like the music industry is finally figuring out ways to use the internet for nothing but positive means.

Here is Tokyo Police Club - The Polaroid Album:

1.  Southside (2001 - Moby)
2.  Sweetness (2002 - Jimmy Eat World)
3.  Under Control (2003 - The Strokes)
4.  Since U Been Gone (2004 - Kelly Clarkson)
5.  Little Sister (2005 - Queens of the Stone Age)
6.  Long Distance Call (2006 - Phoenix)
7.  All My Friends (2007 - LCD Soundsystem)
8.  Kim and Jessie (2008 - M83)
9.  Strictly Game (2009 - Harlem Shakes)
10.  Party in the USA (2010 - Mylie Cyrus)

The 11 Best Songs By Tokyo Police Club

Why are the MTV movie awards more interesting than the Video Music Awards?  I honestly don't care for the awards part.  Any award show where Twilight takes home the movie of the year prize has some serious legitimacy problems.  But the show itself, the spoofs and the presenters are far more interesting than the video aawards.  Recently the video awards have been a full blown lip syncing dance party, featuring medicore artists who can't even play their music live.  There's no mre improv like Kurt Cobain singing rape Me seconds before he could be sensored...or the dude from Rage Against the Machine climbing on the set pieces.  Now everything's plotted out and planned.  It's become second-rate soft-serve vanilla.  The video music awards used to be cool...now I'd rather watch the Grammy's.

Here are the 11 Best Song By Tokyo Police Club:

1.  Your English Is Good (Elephant Shell)
2.  Nature of the Experiment (A Lesson In Crime)

The 11 Best Tom Petty Songs:

I went to the store to buy the new Mudcrutch album. The cheapest I could find it was $11.99. I can't believe there's still some label out there who would push a first week CD for more than $9.99. Have they still not learned from the Napster years? So I went home and decided to buy it online for under $10. But before I bought it...I listened to it one more time...and didn't like it as much. Then I noticed that I could get Tokyo Police Club for only $9.00 with a bonus remix EP. I bought that instead.

Had Mudcrutch been $10 at the store...I would have purchased that...but greed got the best of the label and they lost a customer.

The 11 Best Non-Heartbreaker Tom Petty Songs:
